Hi!
STOPÂ what youâre doing, because I am about to “Drop it like it’s hot” as Snoop Dogg would say. Just click on me ;-), it will only take a minute to listen to what I have to say.
Hi!
STOPÂ what youâre doing, because I am about to “Drop it like it’s hot” as Snoop Dogg would say. Just click on me ;-), it will only take a minute to listen to what I have to say.
“I feel like I know her, such a nice person.”
I wrote this almost a year ago, as part of a blog about how to make a difference in presenting yourself in only one minute. I have thought about this sentence and you might wonder why. It’s a good thing right? If people think of you as a nice person? Of course it is. But there was a time when I made it my goal – unconsciously- to be perceived as âa nice personâ. I really wanted people to like me.
Think about it, when working towards a promotion or building your own company and brand: How do you want people to see you? What is your end goal? If you want to be the next manager or CEO, which traits are important? Phrases like strong negotiator, getting-things-done attitude, inspirational leader, might come to mind. Maybe you want your co-workers or clients to see you as loyal, hard working, socially involved and so on. You want the core values that will help you move forward to stand out. Would it help to be seen as a nice person? Do the ambitious men of this world ever think about being perceived as nice when they climb the corporate ladder?
So when you want to become conscious of the way you are perceived and are working on how you present yourself, do not put being liked on your list. First of all, no matter what you do, half of the people will not like you anyway. Thatâs not even about you. Itâs about them and that makes it none of your business. Secondly, having that as an end goal will make you dishonest. Let me repeat that for you: If you put being liked on your list it will make you dishonest. If you are busy with painting the best picture of yourself just for people to like you, you will not be transparent. If someone asks you for your opinion, for instance, you might just tell them what they want to hear, instead of what you really think.
Stay close to your own beliefs. Find those traits in your character that will help you in your growth. Be passionate, speak your mind, develop your best assets and present them to the fullest. People may not always like you, but in the end, they will respect you. They will see your passion. And passion rubs off. Now isnât that the nicest thing.

“You’re simply the best
Better than all the rest
Better than anyone
Anyone I’ve ever met”
Remember Tina Turner? The queen of Rock n Roll!
She started her career in the mid 1950âs. But it wasnât until the 1980âs that she started doing exactly what she wanted in her career. She was stuck in an abusive relationship with Ike Turner till the end of the seventies.
To me she is simply a fantastic example of someone who managed to completely change her life and live it her own way. She was 44 by the time she had success with her solo career. Believe me when I say there are no excuses from living your life to your full potential. Tina is prove there is life beyondâŠand more.
But she didnât do this by herself, she had a great team. Roger Davies, who then was Olivia Newton-Johnâs manager, became her manager and David Bowie helped her get a record deal. Roger is also responsible for the successful careers of Cher, Janet Jackson, Sade and Pink, whom he all managed. So yes a good team of people who support you is also important, because we all need help in the end.
Now Tina is 77, she got married again at the age of 74 after being together with her partner Erwin Bach for 27 years. Talk about breaking all the rules and more.
Why do I love Tina so much? She teaches us that when we define ourselves (instead of letting others) we are the happiest. Our real model this week Tanja Jadnanansing decided to leave her prestigious job working for the PVDA to becoming an educator at one of the biggest ROCâs in The Netherlands. In this short video she explains why.
So sweet Nancy, follow your passions. Live your life and follow your dreams.
XOXO,
Nancy
“Do you know what it feels like for a girl
Do you know what it feels like in this world for a girlâ
My biggest lesson learned from the high tea is that people want to connect with each other and we all want to be heard. The thing I am most proud of is the diversity of the group of ladies. From women who were born in Iran to women who were born on Aruba to young women about to start their careers to older women wanting to reboost their careers. We all have so much to give. There is no need for competition. There is enough for everyone. We can all help each other.
This sisterhood thang isnât just a word for me. It matters a lot because I know it works. Like one of the ladies said: âI felt welcome and will enter the world again with more self knowledge and inspirationâ.
And that is why I am so happy to announce the speakers of the 11th BrandedU seminar here below.
