I’m coming out part 2

HEY YOU!

I love Diana Ross. And I know I have talked about her and this song before but hey…..I mean she was the Queen B before Beyonce. And Beyonce even “portrayed” her in the film Dreamgirls. I especially love this song because I remember her opening with this song in 1982 when she played the Ahoy in Rotterdam. And I was there. I witnessed her at the top of her game. So that is why this blog is called I’m coming out part 2. I added the part 2 cause this song is too amazing for just one blog.

Take courage and live
The song is meaningful because it is about what I talk about when I teach people about personal branding and that is: DARE… TO BE NOTICED.

It was written for Diana by Chic founders Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards. And Nile Rodgers got the idea for the song after noticing three different drag queens dressed as Diana Ross at a New York club. And since then it has been seen as an anthem for the LGBT community. But the lyrics hold an additional meaning to Diana Ross, as she was leaving Motown Records and “coming out” from under Berry Gordy’s (the boss of Motown) thumb.

It goes:

There’s a new me coming out…..And I just had to live
And I want to give….I’m completely positive

Look at your fears and move forward
Yes, I have said this a lot the last few weeks but really it is the truth! You have gotta keep refreshing, renewing and reinventing yourself. Grow or die, that is my motto.

I think this time around…..I am gonna do it
Like you never do it…..Like you never knew it

Oh, I’ll make it through

Here she talks about courage, daring to dare. You gotta look at your fears and still move forward because most of the time they are all in your head! So be Fearless!

I’ve got to show the world….All that I want to be
And all my abilities….There’s so much more to me

Let the sun shine on you
Yes baby there is more to you than meets the eye but unless you tell and show people this, how will they ever know? Make it visible!

Somehow, I have to make them
Just understand

I got it well in hand

And, oh, how I’ve planned

I’m spreadin’ love

There’s no need to fear

And I just feel so glad

Every time I hear

I’m coming out!

The sun is shining, spring is here. It is time to get out and show your truest self sweet sister and let it come out!

XOXO,

Nancy
