Wake me up
Did you hear about the famous DJ Avicii being found dead in his hotel room last Friday? He was only 28 years old. It made me think of a DJ I used to work with when I was still an artist manager. Wonder how his life would have turned out if he would have reached the level of succes that Avicii had.
“Feeling my way through the darkness
Guided by a beating heart
I can’t tell where the journey will end
But I know where to start”
Being in the spotlight is hard. Being in the spotlight and having enormous success is even harder. Especially when you don’t set boundaries and don’t focus on your core values. I talk about my core values in this month’s Happinez magazine. Without my core values I am completely lost. Having defined them keeps me focused and grounded.
“They tell me I’m too young to understand
They say I’m caught up in a dream
Well life will pass me by if I don’t open up my eyes
Well that’s fine by me”
Because success is like a drug. Once you have it you want more of it. Failure can seem like death instead of a lesson to do things differently. So you can get caught up in the nonsense coming from the outside. All the stuff feeding your ego instead of what can actually make you happy. So you create this image for the outside world. You pretend to be happy, but in fact you are miserable. I heard that yoga teachers these days are half psychiatrists, because so many young women are depressed or have a burn-out. But nobody talks about this on social media.
“So wake me up when it’s all over
When I’m wiser and I’m older”
When I start talking about authenticity, I know that it is all based on vulnerability and that means asking for help. I would be lost without my network of fabulous female entrepreneurs. They are my cheerleaders when things get tough. Together with my core values and soul purpose I get up after I fall down, knowing this too shall past. Nothing lasts forever. Not success and not failure. All you can do is know yourself, because authenticity is more than just a fashion statement.
“All this time I was finding myself, and I
Didn’t know I was lost”
So wake up and focus on you. Know thyself, so nobody can tell you who you should be.
XOXO,
Nancy
